Series production of the station wagon (S 123) began in April 1978 at the Mercedes plant in Bremen. The rear with its high edging turned the new Car into a real miracle of space. A standard hydropneumatic level control on the rear axle ensures a high level of driving comfort regardless of the weight of the payload, which is up to 45 percent of the unladen weight of the around 1500 kg Estate.
