Description:
In September 1969 the much more powerful version of the 280 SE 3.5 Coupé and Cabriolet (type W111) was launched. The newly developed 3.5-liter V8 engine with 200 hp combined exceptional running smoothness with a performance on sports car level. The car’s front end was slightly revised: The radiator grille had become lower and wider and the bonnet was flattened accordingly towards the front. Thus the face-lifted coupés and convertibles are often referred to as “Flachkühler” models.
The vehicle was originally delivered to the USA and came back to Germany a few years ago. Based on its almost untouched original chassis, the car was carefully partially restored in a Mercedes-Benz specialist workshop. The underbody was iceblasted and preserved. Many rubbers and chrome parts, as well as the paint were renewed. The engine including the gearbox was replaced by a much more powerful 5 ltr.-drivetrain (revised). The rear axle was replaced by an overhauled 6,3 ltr. with a long gear ratio. The original engine with gearbox is still present and will be handed over. A rare opportunity to acquire one of the sought-after coupes with fantastically preserved originality, modified technology and impressive driving characteristics.
