    Description:

In the range of W 124 saloons, the 500 E, which was presented in Paris in 1990, occupied a special position from the very beginning. Mercedes wanted a competitor for the BMW M5, a Limousine with a lot of power. For the engine they had in mind the 5.0-litre V8 from the 500 SL Roadster. The problem: the V8 would not fit into the much too small engine compartment without modifications to the body. To make room for it, body parts have to be modified and rewelded. This is too time-consuming and expensive. Therefore Mercedes asked Porsche if they could help out. The 500 E was developed and designed in cooperation with Porsche and then manufactured at the Porsche plant in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen. At the beginning of the 1990s, Porsche had major financial problems and was therefore grateful for the external order.

The classic potential of this car is very great right from the start. Soon after the end of production, the 500 E becomes a coveted collector’s item.

    The Mercedes-Benz 500 E (W124. 036) was built from 1990 to 1993 and the E 500 model from 1993 to 1995.

The 500 E, built in 1992, is one of the sought-after early examples that were still built by Porsche. After completion, the car was exported to Sweden. From there, the car returned to Germany a few years ago in the hands of a Mercedes-Benz collector. With a mileage of 125,000 km, the car is in a well-maintained condition! Only a few more months and this “Porsche-Benz” will be eligible for historic registration.
