Developed through the cooperation between BMC and John Cooper, the model was offered from 1963 as a high-performance version of the Mini Cooper. Thanks to its low weight and powerful engine, the Mini Cooper S quickly established itself as a serious competitor in motorsport – including overall victories at the Monte Carlo Rally in 1964, 1965 and 1967.
