    Description:

    John Tojeiro made his name as a chassis engineer in England and once he was established, customers were contacting him and commissioning him to build “one-off” race cars. Tojeiro’s first car was powered by a Bristol engine. Shortly after that, Tojeiro built two or three MG powered cars with a similar body. The Tojeiro MG is inspired by the Ferrari 166 and can be seen as the DNA for the AC Ace which later became the AC Shelby Cobra.

    This Tojeiro MG was ordered by Lionel Leonard from John Tojeiro. “LOY 501” had considerable success in the hands of Lionel Leonard, David Blakeley and Erik Brandon and Stirling Moss. Of particular note is the fact that “LOY 501” was almost lost forever. Leonard’s last race of the 1954 season was also his last race. After a “off market-pause” of almost 30 years it came into the hands of Rodney Tolhurst in Maidstone and he restored it. The further owner’s history is documented. In the early 2000s this MG returned to England, to Martin Chisholm of Classic Motor Hub, who gave the Tojeiro its first taste of racing air at the Goodwood Revival in 2009. 1953 Tojeiro MG The Leonard Special – “LOY 501” is the most important Prototype MG sports car and is declared “of significant historical importance”. The racing history is well documented by numerous historical photos. A “Historic Technical Passport” and many articles in magazines come with the car. Due to its racing history and its rarity, this car is an interesting investment and at the same time a ticket for many top-class events. All that’s missing now is a new owner who can make the Tojeiro dance like Stirling Moss did all those years ago…!
