Description:
Maxie Hoffman, the most successful Porsche salesman in the USA, had the idea of bringing a light, open and particularly sporty version of the 356 to America. 1952 Porsche had the “American Roadster” developed. With its aluminum body much too expensive, Hoffman can only sell 24 units. Only the “Speedster” made with a steel body enables more cost-effective production and more sales. The “Speedster” is made for the rich youth from Los Angeles and Malibu and quickly becomes a toy for Hollywood stars. Since James Dean drove the Speedster, what is probably the most puristic of all Porsches, it has become an icon of Porsche Sports cars.
This 356 A 1600 Speedster was delivered on December 8th, 1956 by the importer Max Hoffmann. 15 years ago the Speedster was restored on a very healthy basis. Til today, it has all “matching numbers” and, according to the Porsche birth certificate, was delivered in this color combination. The Speedster comes from a Belgian collection and has a Belgian registration.
