Description:
The Maserati 3500 GT was presented in 1957 at the Geneva Motor Show as a coupé bodied by Touring. Its technical basis was the successful racing engine from the Maserati 350S in a more civilised, everyday-usable form.
Later, Maserati presented the open-top version at the Turin Motor Show 1959 : a cabriolet designed by Giovanni Michelotti and built by “Carrozzeria Vignale”. For more agile, sportier handling, this version received a shortened chassis. By the end of production in 1964, only 242 examples had been built.
The car offered here was presented in 1961 at the Paris Motor Show in its present colour combination of Argento (silver) over black leather finish. From the factory, the car was additionally fitted with a hardtop. It was subsequently acquired by Monsieur Dupré (France) according to the surviving invoice, through the Maserati dealer Thepenier, Saint-Cloud (Paris).
A few years ago the car underwent an extensive, well-documented restoration by renowned Maserati/Ferrari specialists.
An exceptional Italian classic presents itself here with a significant history, an elaborate restoration and in the sought-after configuration with disc brakes, five-speed gearbox and a carburetor engine.
