Description:
In 1952, Max Hoffman, the most successful Porsche salesman in the USA, had the idea of bringing a light, open and particularly sporty version of the 356 to America and had the “American Roadster” developed. Hoffman was only able to sell 24 units with its aluminium body. Only the “Speedster”, made of sheet steel, enabled more cost-effective production and higher sales. The “Speedster” was made for the rich youth of Los Angeles and Malibu and quickly became the toy of Hollywood stars. Ever since James Dean drove the Speedster, the most purist of all Porsches became an icon of the Zuffenhausen sports car brand.
4144 Speedsters were produced between 1954 and 1958.
According to the documentation available, the Speedster presented here was originally delivered to the USA. The ownership history there is well documented. In 2015, the vehicle returned to Germany to its current owner. Under his direction, the engine was recently completely overhauled. The stamped engine number corresponds to the delivery date. The car has an original hardtop and a German road licence. In addition to its beautiful colour combination, this Speedster is particularly sought-after and Mille-Miglia-eligable due to its early year of construction.
